Scroll Free September: Social media users urged to log off – BBC News

Social media devotees are being encouraged to “take back control” and stop scrolling through their feeds for an entire month.

The Royal Public Health Society is behind Scroll Free September, which is targeting users of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.

It believes logging off could improve sleep, relationships and wellbeing.

NHS England said it was right to highlight social media’s role in a rise in young people’s mental health issues.The campaign is asking phone addicts to give up, or cut down on, their use of personal social media accounts.

Η Blue plaque είναι μία μόνιμη επιγραφή που τοποθετείται σε δημόσια μέρη, του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου και συνδέει μία τοποθεσία με έναν διάσημο άνθρωπο ή ένα γεγονός.

Οι πρώτες τιμητικές πλακές τοποθετήθηκαν στο Λονδίνο, τον 19ο αιώνα, σε σπίτια ή σε χώρους εργασίας διάσημων ανθρώπων. Η τοποθέτηση τιμητικών πλακών, συνεχίζει και υφίσταται έως και σήμερα.

Μια αξιοσημείωτη καμπάνια ξεκίνησε την Πέμπτη, με αφορμή την Εθνική Ημέρα Ποίησης της Βρετανίας (28 Σεπτεμβρίου), η βρετανική Βιβλιοθήκη Ποίησης, με στόχο να διατηρήσει για τις επόμενες γενιές ποιήματα σε χιλιάδες γλώσσες οι οποίες απειλούνται με εξαφάνιση.

‘E-cigarette’ sparks Euston railway station evacuation – BBC News

An e-cigarette is believed to have caused a small explosion at London Euston station, police said.

The station was closed for about 90 minutes while British Transport Police (BTP) investigated. London Underground trains did not stop at the station.

No-one was injured in the explosion, which was reported at 19:40 BST.

Network Rail advised there would be major disruption until the end of the day. It urged passengers to go to other stations to get to their destinations.

‘The happy syndrome’: 13-year-old boy with unknown condition is the same size as a toddler | The Independent

A teenage boy has been diagnosed with a condition which means he’s the same size as an average toddler. Angus Palmes, who weighs just 2st and 2lbs, bewildered doctors as they struggled to diagnose his condition at birth. Now, experts are calling his unique condition a ‘personal syndrome’ because he is the only person in the world with it.  Appearing on This Morning with his mum Tandy, 48, from Macclesfield, Cheshire, the mother-and-son spoke candidly about Angus’ diagnosis – which Tandy prefers to refer to as his ‘happy syndrome.’

The Victoria and Albert Museum is one of London’s more prestigious and beautiful museums. Based in Knightsbridge, it houses a permanent collection of 4.5 million art and design objects, making it the largest museum in the world of it’s kind. They’ve got everything: post-classical sculpture, Italian Renaissance paintings and ancient ceramics. Given that they proudly exhibit cultures from all over the world, you’d think they’d be OK with breastfeeding in 2017. Sadly not.

Everton’s under-23 squad help buy house for homeless – BBC News

Everton FC’s under-23 team have helped raise £245,000 to buy a house for young people at risk of becoming homeless.
